GOURMET GOODIES FOR GIFTS AND ENTERTAINING
Snowflakes are falling, there’s a nip in the air, and holiday decorations are all around. Are you thinking what I’m thinking? GOURMET GOODIES!!! The VIRGINIA SHOPPER is so “into” it already that I bought wine and luscious chocolates in anticipation of celebration! I’m in the mood! I’m ready! How about you? Let’s INDULGE!
THE FABULOUS FRUITCAKE
“The worst gift is a fruitcake. There is only one fruitcake in the entire world, and people keep sending it to each other.” –Johnny Carson
Bah-Humbug Johnny! We all know that desserts are the stuff of traditional Christmas Past, Present and Future! The VIRGINIA SHOPPER LOVES fruitcake! But, baking it? Forgeddaboutit! So, even though Aunt Jane’s version is now a doorstop (I had it shellacked last year), methinks it’s time to put really GOOD fruitcake back on the preferred list. After all, when it’s good, it’s yummy and can be nibbled right through to February, and they say it’s even healthy! The BEST news is I don’t have to bake it myself. There are fruitcakes and then there are fruitcakes. Would you believe Virginia Born and Bred carries the most scrumptious fruitcake in the world? Order it online, by phone 540 463-1832, or drop by the shop on Washington Street in beautiful Lexington, Virginia.
THE HOLIDAY DESSERT TABLE – START A TRADITION
What about doing something completely new? How about a Holiday Dessert Table for a Holiday Dessert Party? What a great idea!!! I’m going to create a special table filled with tons of deliciously sweet things. I’ll decorate it with some goodies wrapped as gifts for guests. And I will invite friends to bring their own contributions too.
Here are some Opulent Options for an awesome Holiday Dessert Table:
Traditional Fruit Cake is a must of course, plus
Miniature Fruit Cakes (great for nibbling)
Virginia Dark Peppermint Bark (a rich, dark chocolate candy enhanced by the zip of peppermint)
Rum Cakes with vanilla, chocolate, coconut, or cinnamon sauce .
Coconut Macaroons coated with dark chocolate
And Don’t forget the Wine and Chocolate!
RECOMMENDATION: Folks don’t usually count calories over the holidays. It’s a Prime Time to relax and enjoy the spirit of giving and indulging. So don’t hold back! Experiment with new (and old) holiday desserts. Get creative, have fun, and launch new family traditions without “sweating over a hot stove”.
Leftovers??? Freeze them for another special occasion! THINK VALENTINE’S DAY!!
‘TIL WE MEET AGAIN… The VIRGINIA SHOPPER!
