Little Red Caboose in Virginia One of 10 Most Unusual Vacation Homes

THE VIRGINIA SHOPPER went on the prowl again – this time to find wacky vacation homes around Virginia.  Have you ever thought of sleeping in a tree house or a windmill or a caboose?  Well your SHOPPER found a list of THE TEN MOST UNUSUAL VACATION HOMES around the world!  Guess which one made the top 10??  A little red caboose in Natural Bridge, Virginia!!!  It was among the top member selections in a poll by TripAdvisor (the online travel service).

According to the owner of the 1926 red caboose, it will accommodate a couple or a small family and has one bedroom with double bed and a single daybed in the “great room”. Small children could sleep in the cupola with sleeping bags. The caboose has been fully renovated, has a galley with stove, convection microwave, sink and small fridge. There is a full bath with shower. It’s a work of love and packs a lot into a small 200 square foot space. The patio has a gas grill and a gas “hobo fire pit”. The VIRGINIA SHOPPER hasn’t stayed there, but thinks it’s absolutely adorable!

Of course if you’re craving more traditional accommodations, there is always The Natural Bridge Inn (in the same area).  And if you think there’s nothing to do – think again.  Lexington, VA is less than 20 miles north of Natural Bridge, where there’s history and more history, and SHOPPING AND MORE SHOPPING!   Lexington’s “downtown” is humming with great shops, restaurants, and things to do.  Try Virginia Born and Bred of course – for the best of Virginia unusual gifts, gourmet foods and home décor.  Or Sunday’s Child, “Lexington’s Feel Good Store”, or IntimateU for surprising finds in lingerie and beauty products.  Foot weary?  One visit to Lexingon Reflexology and you’ll walk out wanting to dance – it’s a foot rub to end all foot rubs! And there’s more – lots more!

What else was on the Top 10 Most Unusual Vacation Homes list? To name just a few, there’s a windmill rental in Portugal, a Floating Inn in Boston, a dome house in Sedona, Arizona, and a houseboat in Knoxville, Tennessee.

CONCLUSION:  It’s fun to think out of the box and into the caboose.

THE VIRGINIA SHOPPER RECOMMENDATION:  Try staying in the little red caboose for something to write home about!  For details, visit TripAdvisor at  http://bit.ly/kr8kls .
